Walter Mahla, Electrical Engineer
Walt Mahla has two degrees in electrical engineering, a BSEE from Virginia Tech and a MSEE from Purdue University. Since graduation, Walt has worked in networking and communications and has worked for Infinet, CrossComm, US Robotics (acquired by 3Com) and Broadband Access Systems, Inc. Walt was a co-founder of Broadband Access Systems, Inc. (BAS), serving the company as VP of Engineering. BAS developed a best in industry Cable Access Router and Cable Modem Termination System and was sold to ADC in 2001.
Since 2001, Walt has also been involved in real estate development and construction. Walt is a huge believer in renewable energy; he heats his home with geothermal heat pumps, heats hot water with solar, and generates almost 25KW on his roof with solar PV.
Kirt Mayland, Consultant
Kirt Mayland is an outside consultant to Megawatt Energy Solutions. He was formerly the business development director and in-house counsel of Soltas Energy, where he helped develop approximately 23 megawatts of solar pv in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Tennessee. He is currently of-counsel for Soltas Energy. He was formerly in-house counsel at Penn Energy Trust and Penn Energy Renewables, Pennsylvania-based renewable energy developers of wind and solar, respectively. While at Penn, Mr. Mayland helped secure approximately 70 megawatts of solar pv power purchase agreements in Ontario and Vermont. Prior to his time at Penn, Mr. Mayland was an environmental attorney at Trout Unlimited and also the founder and Director of its Eastern Water Project.
He has also worked at Sidley, Austin Brown & Wood and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius as a corporate attorney in New York City. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1994, was a Fulbright Scholar in Monterrey, Mexico where he received a Masters in Finance, from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores, received a JD from the University of Connecticut, where he was a member of the Connecticut Law Review, and received an LLM in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School.
Stu Clark, Professional Engineer
Stu Clark, a registered professional engineer in MA, RI and CT, has 22+ years of engineering design experience. Stu has recently focused his career on solar energy projects and has been involved with dozens of projects taking on various roles. Stu graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1993, is married and has two children.
Mark Studley, Master Electrician
Director of Field Operations
Mark brings years of experience as an electrician and project manager to Megawatt. He played a leading role in projects as diverse as the Electrical Manager of the Amgen facility in West Greenwich, RI to installation lead on residential and commercial solar arrays around the state. Mark, as Field Operations Director of Megawatt, oversaw the installation of the 2.8MW of solar that the company has completed to date. A true renewable energy enthusiast Mark has designed a solar array, a wind turbine and is developing a geothermal application for his own home.
Gail Scanlon, Office Manager / Project Admin
Native Rhode Islander and enthusiastic newcomer to the world of renewable energy, Gail is involved in all aspects of bringing projects to fruition. Drawing on diverse past experience as showroom manager, interior designer, retail sales and teacher, she coordinates with outreach, sales staff, and field teams to ensure projects are on track and on schedule.
Gail is an avid student and intent on providing exceptional customer service by staying abreast of the latest advances in solar PV. She is currently enrolled at Solar Energy International in the Solar Business and Technical Sales Certification program and is preparing to sit for the NABCEP Entry level exam in the near future.
